5 Days in Kuala Lumpur

Updated: Jan 25

If I can't visit the real New York, why not visit Asian New York.

The decision was quick, and the trip was unplanned. But since Vietnam is quiet at the end of January because of the Chinese New Year, there was nothing to do here.

So I bought tickets (Air Asia) and flew to the capital of Malaysia.

I planned five days for the trip, which is a lot for one KL. I think two days will be enough to see all the sights of this city. Personally, I just wanted to take a break from the noise of Hanoi, and walk around the city, where there are sidewalks, enjoy the high-rises and delicious food.

🏩 HOTELS

I'll start with the accommodation. I didn't want to stay in one hotel for all five days, so I stayed in three different places.

I didn't bother much with the first hotel, since I arrived late in the evening, and I just needed to spend the night.

I didn't want a completely homeless option, so I looked for three stars, so that there was breakfast and a window in the room.

Easy Hotel Kl Sentral suited me perfectly, the location is right opposite the train station, where I arrived from the airport.

But upon arrival I was disappointed...

Instead of my Deluxe room, they gave me a box without a window...

The reason was that I supposedly arrived late and there were no Deluxe rooms left.

Of course, I contacted Booking support, after which nothing changed, except that I was offered a free breakfast.

My rating for this hotel is one!

I think this situation happened to me not only, so I will not recommend this hotel.

For its price, you can rent a much better optionант.

The second hotel I wanted was one with a view of the high-rise buildings and an infinity pool. I found this option in KLCC

My room was on the 33rd floor and offered me a wonderful view of the city and the construction site, but even this did not bother me.

The room was clean and cozy, everything was like in the picture, the only but was the bugging from other rooms. I literally heard everything that was happening above me, below me and next to me.

The pool and bar were on the 48th floor. Did I swim in the pool of my dreams? Of course not... Despite the heat, I always feel cool, and I don't really like swimming, and there was no one to take a luxury photo) So I did not use this feature.

Upon check-in, they gave me a voucher for a free cocktail and 50 percent off coffee, which was very nice.

My rating for this hotel is four!

Waiting for the elevator took 10-15 minutes, which sometimes drove me crazy, and I didn't really want to go up to the 33rd floor myself. And plus the bugging in the room, also as a minus. However, the area itself is very good, 10 minutes walk to the famous towers, 15 minutes to the monorail. In general, the location is excellent.

I was already looking for the third option in Kuala Lumpur. Booking gave me a secret offer for one hotel, which seemed very nice to me, and I took one night there.

Arriving at the hotel, I booked a second night, since for me it was the perfect hotel. View of the towers, clean, quiet, no noise from neighboring rooms, friendly staff. The hotel also had a swimming pool, in which I did not swim) The design of the hotel was very pleasing - everything in pink shades.

The location is convenient, close to. Different metro lines, there is even a line that goes straight to the Batu Caves. The only thing is that in the evenings it was a little scary to walk alone in this area.

My rating for this hotel is five!

I liked everything! I would stay there again)

🥗 FOOD

Now I’ll tell you a little about places where you can eat deliciously, and although I haven’t managed to do this often, I’d still like to mention a couple of places.

If you are a meat lover, then you definitely need to check this place out.

I am not one of them, but the mushrooms with chicken were excellent, as was the glass of wine (the only alcohol I drank during the trip).

A cozy place where you can have a tasty and hearty breakfast.

A charming place with food trucks where you can choose food for any taste. Plus there will be live music and a small fire show (I don't know about the day, but in the evening it's definitely like that).

Since I mostly walked a lot and was absorbed in walking, I did not stop at any special cafes, but there were many of them on my list. Below I will attach a link to Google maps with the points where I went or wanted to go.

💃Entertainment

On this trip, the entertainment for me was to walk a lot. Even though the weather was unpredictable, it did not stop me from enjoying walks around this city.

Petronas Twin Tower

The famous twin towers of Malaysia. They are magnificent both during the day and in the evening. For me it was enough to look at them from different angles from below, so I did not go to the observation decks. And in general on this trip I wanted to be where there were fewer people...

📍Petronas Twin Tower, Lower Ground (Concourse) Level, Kuala Lumpur City Centre, 50088 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Aquaria KLCC

I really love looking at fish, sharks and other sea creatures. In order to enjoy and be at peace in the atmosphere of fish, you have to go through, so to speak, not a small queue. And although it looked endless, in the end I spent about 30-40 minutes on it, but I was in no hurry.

Ticket price - $ 16

📍Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Jalan Pinang, Kuala Lumpur City Centre, 50088 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

A beautiful bridge that is simply pleasant to walk along.

📍9, Lorong Raja Muda Musa 3, Kampung Baru, 50300 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Menara Kuala Lumpur

The TV tower, which also has an observation point. But I was more interested in something else at this point, namely parrots and other creatures. On the territory of the tower you can find a mini zoo, where I went to feed the parrots, turtles and llamas.

📍2 Jalan Punchak, Off, Jalan P. Ramlee, 50250 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

KL Forest Eco Park Canopy Walk

I went towards the TV tower because I wanted to walk along the eco path. Unfortunately, it was closed due to the holidays.

📍Kuala Lumpur, 50250 Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park

A small butterfly park, pleasant and relaxing, and also attracts attention to interesting individuals of the butterfly order)

📍920, Jalan Cenderawasih, Tasik Perdana, 50480 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Laman Perdana

A nice park where you can dissolve in your thoughts and nature. Or maybe I was just lucky because the weather was rainy and only I and one other person in front of me enjoyed the sounds of nature.

📍Perdana Botanical Gardens, 50480 Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

China Town

If you want to find yourself in one of the most atmospheric areas of KL, then you should take a walk around China Town (it is better to look for Petaling street or Jalah Petaling). Here you will find a market with junk for all days, which can also be used for souvenirs, also admire the narrow streets and drink coffee or something else in colorful establishments!

📍Jalan Petaling, City Centre, 50000 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Batu Caves

As a cave lover, I couldn't pass by this place. It's very easy to get to, as there is a train that goes straight to them. These caves are worth your attention, especially the giant statue and the endless steps into the cave itself. Rumor has it that on the way to the top you will be chased by impudent monkeys, literally snatching absolutely everything from your hands... Well... on the day of my climb there was not a single entity. The view of the cave at the top is incredible!

📍68100 Batu Caves, Selangor, Malaysia

This is where I finish my entertainment list, but I am sure that Kuala Lumpur has a huge number of attractions and interesting places. But for me it was just important to walk around the city and not think about anything, not run anywhere and not be in a crowd.

Overall, I want to say that I liked KL! It had everything I wanted to get in these few days of rest from Vietnam!

A beautiful modern city, delicious food, convenient public transport, lots of entertainment for every taste, reasonable prices and, what's more, everyone speaks English.
