Although I have known Haruki Murakami for many years, I have not always been a fan of his work.
One of my favorite choreographers - Pacman - posted about this novel on his Instagram. He explained how deep this book is, and how much he learned from it. Throughout his text, he urged us to return to the love of reading, which is not so common these days. This book caught my attention immediately! Found…. This book caught my attention immediately! Found.... an 800-page book !!! I was intimidated by the size, and it's difficult to carry around, and I'm an adamant opponent of e-books. One year has passed... then another... It was on the shelf until, due to my health, I was lying in bed at home! I understood, now was the time!
I wanted to read something light and fun. That was the wrong decision.
It turned out to be an extremely strange book, and it was quite difficult to read at times. My sleep was disturbed by the vividly and in detail described plots of the Second World War! I was left wondering throughout the book, where and what are the connections between dreams, reality, and fragments from history. A variety of strange and new characters appeared throughout the novel and the chirping of what appears to be a clockwork bird. It turned out to be a very deep book, and I'm not sure I've yet understood everything it contains. Nonetheless, I will say one thing, it is read with interest, and each scene is described in such detail that I can see where the hero is, what he is wearing, what those around him are wearing; sometimes it seemed the smells themselves were transmitted through the book. Having read until the very end, I expected a different outcome... However... This book and how Murakami applies it makes you think about many things in this life, but I probably won't go into a dark old well to understand what has happened in my life, even though I have a well in my backyard.
